Micro-Seg

Pricing

Micro-Seg is built, maintained and supported by one engineer. It is priced for sustainability, not scale: fewer customers, each of them properly supported. If it saves your lab a day or two of an engineer's time per year, it has paid for itself.

How licensing works

What support includes

Support boundaries are part of the deal, stated before you buy. A license buys you the software and the support below — not general consulting time.

Professional services

Fixed-scope, quoted projects. Every quote states data limits, iteration counts, acceptance metrics on a fixed test set, ownership, and payment milestones (50% start / 30% candidate model / 20% acceptance). Cross-device or cross-lab generalization is a new project, not an assumption.

Custom model pipeline

Step 1

Data feasibility study

$2,500–3,500

You send 10–20 anonymized sample images. I review data quality, expected difficulty and project scope, and deliver a written report.

Step 2

Model POC

$8,000–12,000

One model, one iteration, evaluated on a fixed test set — proof that your problem is learnable before committing to production.

Step 3

Production model

$20,000–50,000

Training, evaluation, plugin integration into Micro-Seg, and a bounded number of iterations, per the quoted scope.

Step 4

Annual model maintenance

$3,000–10,000 / year

Retraining as your data grows, compatibility with new Micro-Seg releases, and limited support.

50% of the feasibility fee is credited toward a production model purchased within 30 days.

Other services

Annotation spec design

from $2,000

Class definitions, boundary rules, ambiguous-case handling, up to 20 exemplar images annotated or reviewed, delivered as a specification document.

Data quality audit

from $1,500

Sampled review of your annotated dataset with a written issue list. Does not include per-image fixes.

Custom development

$1,500–2,000 / day

Generally useful features delivered on your schedule; 5-day minimum. The feature may still ship in the standard product.

Client-specific integration

from $15,000

Proprietary database interfaces, LIMS integrations, device protocols — plus an annual maintenance fee.

What we don't sell

Full-dataset annotation. You annotate — or hire an annotation vendor — while we provide the annotation spec, audit samples for quality, and own the model and software integration. Microscopy annotation is linear human labor; selling it would stall the software you're actually paying for.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I stop renewing?

You keep a perpetual license to the last version released during your license term — it keeps working forever. You stop receiving new versions, new models and support. Rejoining later costs 125% of the then-current renewal price.

Is there a monthly plan?

No. Annual billing only. Monthly plans create churn, billing overhead and unpredictable revenue — the opposite of what keeps a single-maintainer product dependable.

Who qualifies for academic pricing?

Students, faculty and staff of degree-granting institutions and public research institutes. Order with your institutional email; requests are reviewed manually.

I replaced my computer — now what?

Deactivate the old device yourself and activate the new one. Device management is self-service; no email required.

Does the Free version include support?

Free users receive documentation and community-based support. Direct technical support is part of paid licenses.

How does a custom model project start?

Send 10–20 anonymized sample images and book a 30-minute call. The first paid step is the feasibility study — its report defines scope, difficulty and risks. POC and production follow only if the numbers make sense. No budget, no deep-dive.

Do you guarantee the model works on our other microscopes?

No. Acceptance metrics are computed on a fixed, agreed test set. Cross-device and cross-lab generalization is explicitly out of scope — a new microscope or sample system is a new project.

How do I pay?

Contact us by email. Orders and invoicing are currently handled directly; self-service checkout with a 14-day trial is on the roadmap.
